My Lord,

I understand that it is the intention of Government to send several Inspectors of Police to Hong Kong, may I request you will be kind enough to take into your favourable consideration my application as a candidate for one of these appointments.

Retired in August 1843, not from any reasons connected with physical disability, but in consequence of expectations entertained of property in the West Indies in which expectations however I have since been disappointed. Your Lordship is fully aware that properties in that part of the world are now considerably depreciated.

The extent of my services previous to my retirement was thirty-three years, twenty-one and a half of that period in the East Indies, & never was ill the climate perfectly agreeing with me.
